At the command prompt type : ipconfig /release. If the TCP/IP stack and the winsock keys are unharmed you should get a 0.0.0.0 ip address

Type ipconfig /renew. If a DHCP server is available and system settings are not corrupted you should get a valid ip address otherwise: 169.254.x.x. Refer to the next steps if you don't get a valid ip.
