Hit F8 every ½ second as soon as you turn the computer on until you reach the Advanced Options Menu

If the computer locks in safe mode when you start typing, log off and log back in before pressing any key

If you are having a lot of troubles starting this way follow this process but be very careful.
1. Click Start/Run launch msconfig
2. Click on the Boot.Ini tab.
3. Check safeboot.
4. If you want to start in safe mode with networking move the dot from minimal into network
5. Click Ok and Yes to reboot.
6. The first thing that needs to be done in safe mode is to go in msconfig and uncheck safeboot. The computer will always boot in safe if you don’t do that.

Always log in as the main user. Never use the built in Administrator account unless the main user is corrupt. Some fixes are user specific and will not apply in normal mode where the Administrator account is hidden. If you don’t see the main user press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to bring up the classic logon screen.
