SFC /scannow cannot find the CD

Especially on Windows Media Center the system file checker utility will not be able to recover system files from the CD. The error is "Cannot find the Windows XP Professional CD".
For that problem and situations when the OS CD is not available it is possible to change the settings for SFC to copy the required files from the hard drive.
Here is how:
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
On the right hand side change the SourcePath to c:\
Try running SFC again. If it doesn't work change the SourcePath to c:\i386
