Besides Norton any other firewall can block access to secure websites. It's a good ideea to turn off the firewalls temporarily. This way we can find out if the firewall is the problem or we need to move to the next slide.

Not only firewalls will block access to secure websites. There have been known issues in the past with the McAfee Privacy Control so you might want to check that as well.

A great way to establish if the problem is caused by a 3rd party application or just by the operating system itself is to go in Safe Mode With Networking. This will work only if you have high speed Internet.

Here's how:

Method 1:

1. Turn the computer off.
2. One second after you press the power button to start the computer back up, start hitting F8. Hit F8 continuously every second.
3. That should get you to an Advanced Option Menu

4. Choose Safe Mode With Networking and hit Enter
5. On the next screen choose your operating system
6. On the login screen choose your user name. Never use the built in Administrator account unless the main user is corrupt. Some fixes are user specific and will not apply in normal mode where the Administrator account is hidden.
7. Click Yesy to proceed working in safe mode.

If you are having a lot of troubles starting in safe mode with F8 follow the next process:

Method 2:

1. Click Start/Run and launch msconfig
2. Click on the Boot.Ini tab.
3. Check safeboot.
4. If you want to start in safe mode with networking move the dot from minimal into network
5. Click Ok and Yes to reboot.
6. Don't forget that while in safe mode you need to remove the check if you want to be able to go back in normal mode.

If in safe mode secure websites were working fine we recommend you to perform a clean boot ( http://www.myfixes.com/slides/msconfig-32 ) in order to establish which application is responsible. If in safe mode secure websites are still not showing up we know there is a problem with the system settings.
